Inflammation, Infiltration, Necrosis, Abscess and Nicolau Syndrome after Injection of Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs: What is the Reason?

چکیده
It has been established that some nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) when administered through injectable preparations have a local irritating effect, even though the are considered high-quality. seems this irritant action is not related to any specific pharmacological but with physicochemical properties of preparation grossly violate homeostasis tissues. complications at injection sites can be caused by nonspecific preparations: denaturing (cauterizing), hypertonic and acidic activity. Each such property, or their combination, locally which cause abscess, necrosis, acute aseptic inflammation reversible irreversible nature, follows immediately after subcutaneous intramuscular administration, condition named “Nicolau Syndrome”. Conversely, NSAIDs having isotonic hypotonic osmolarity associated neutral weakly alkaline pH (about 7.4), produce minimal short-term inflammatory effect do Nicolau Syndrome administration.

Nicolau syndrome after intramuscular injection of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID).
Nicolau syndrome is a rare complication of intramuscular injection that leads to local ischemic necrosis of the skin and adipose tissue. In this paper, we discuss etiologies, risk factors, and treatment options for gluteal Nicolau syndrome referring to patients treated in our hospital. Our study includes 17 women who visited our clinic with symptoms of gluteal necrosis secondary to intramuscula...
متن کاملNonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are usually defined as those agents that inhibit one or more reactions involved in the production of prostaglandins and thromboxanes, important mediators of the inflammatory process in many organs and tissues. They find use in horses in the supportive treatment of a variety of systemic states and painful musculoskeletal or soft tissue conditions. T...
متن کاملNicolau Syndrome after Intramuscular Benzathine Penicillin Injection
A 3-year-old boy was admitted to the emergency department with right lower limb pain, edema, and livedoid discoloration that occurred immediately after intramuscular injection of benzathine penicillin. The patient was diagnosed with Nicolau syndrome, a rare complication of intramuscular injection presumed to be related to the inadvertent intravascular injection. It was first reported following ...
متن کاملNonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs and the Kidney
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) inhibit the isoenzymes COX-1 and COX-2 of cyclooxygenase (COX). Renal side effects (e.g., kidney function, fluid and urinary electrolyte excretion) vary with the extent of COX-2-COX-1 selectivity and the administered dose of these compounds. While young healthy subjects will rarely experience adverse renal effects with the use of NSAIDs, elderly pa...
